Preparations on for militant ingress during winter months | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Dec 6: Central intelligence agencies have suggested to the Army authorities to further upgrade the security grid on the entire LOC and the 187-km long International Border(IB) in Jammu following reports that Pakistani agencies, including the troops, were trying to assist groups of militants in sneaking into Jammu and Kashmir. These agencies have coot the Army authorities and the BSF that incidents of ceasefire violations were to increase because the agencies across the LOC and the IB were trying to help at-least 50 per cent of the over 1,000 militants, who have been brought on the launch pads, to cross over to Jammu and Kashmir. A report with the central intelligence agencies reveals that about 2500 militants have been kept ready in the training camps and the Pakistani Army was looking for an opportune time for pushing some of the militants into Jammu and Kashmir. This report said that the recent ceasefire violations in Poonch, Rajouri, Karnah were part of the plan of the Pakistani Army to engage the Indian troops in the exchange of fire so that ingress route was carved out for the militants. It is in this context that the intelligence agencies have suggested to the Army functionaries to increase the deployment of troops on the border so that not an inch of the LOC and I B were left unmanned. The Army top brass has been advised to bank on electronic gadgets for monitoring the movement of militants. The security forces, especially the police, have been advised to step up surveillance in the border villages to ensure that militants failed to get any shelter in these villages soon after they cross into the state from across the LOC and the IB. Experts are of the opinion that the border guards need not take things lightly on the plea that once the border routes were buried under snow there would be no ingress attempts. Instead preparations were being made for training militants in crossing into Jammu and Kashmir during the time the border routes were under snow. Hence next three months were crucial and if the rat of ingress was not allowed to increase chances of peace to continue in Kashmir were bright.
