PNB panelized for spurned cheque despite sufficient amount | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Dec 6: In a complaint filed by Dr Pritam Singh Katoch Bank for spurned cheque despite sufficient amount the Consumer Forum directed Punjab National Bank to pay Rs 30,000 to complainant. President Division Consumer Forum Jammu Bala Joyti after hearing the complainant observed that It is established that the complainant has suffered mental agony, humiliation, loss of time & financial loss as well on account of spurning his cheque on the solitary grounds that he did not have ‘sufficient funds in his account when the cheque issued by complainant in for making a payment towards installment of premium of Life insurance in favour of the LIC of India ps for a sum of Rs.3246.50,although there were more than Rs.60,000/- in the S/B account with the Bank. The forum directed the Bank to compensate the complainant for the deficiency in service towards him to which he was entitled and Rs.25,000/- on account of mental agony and harassment caused due to returning his supra cheque unpaid without any rhyme & reason and that too when he has sufficient money in his account lying with the Bank and Rs.5000/-(Five thousand) towards litigation charges including advocate’s fee and directed Manager Punjab National Bank Gandhi Nagar Branch Jammu and he will make payment of the entire amount within one month from the date of this order failing which the complainant will be entitled to recover the same with interest @ 8 % p.a.
