NPSU, YP demand state holiday on Maharaja Gulab Singh’s b’day | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Dec 6:National Panthers Students Union (NPSU) and Young Panthers (YP) demanded for state holiday on the birth anniversary of the founder of the state, Maharaja Gulab Singh who extended the boundaries of the state to Gilgit, Baltistan, Ladakh touching the boundaries of Tibet and Chamba. The activists of YP & NPSU today held a massive protest demonstration at Dogra Chowk, Jammu for highlighting the demand of declaring 18th October, the date of birth of Maharaja Gulab Singh, as state holiday. Addressing the media persons, Virender Singh said that Maharaja Gulab Singh was a great personality and brave ruler of the state who had founded the princely state of Jammu & Kashmir by extending its boundaries to Rajouri, Poonch, Gilgit, Baltistan, Ladakh, Kishtwar, and Chamba by conquering these areas. He said that it was His bravery and intelligence due to which British forces could not enter or capture J&K. Kusam Khajuria said that it becomes duty of every citizen of the state to give honour and respect to these great Dogra rulers of the state who sacrificed their whole life for the sake of the state. He said that it is the strong demand of the people of this state to 18th October as a state holiday.
