Kamaal fooling himself and Kashmiri Muslims | Compromise For Power | | Rustam JAMMU, Dec 6: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah's father's younger brother Mustafa Kamaal, who was disgraced and humiliated by Farooq Abdullah only a couple of weeks ago for his stand on the Congress and New Delhi, continues to target New Delhi and the Congress and demand what he calls autonomy. Paying homage to his father Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah on his 106th birth anniversary, Kamaal accused New Delhi and the Congress party of committing wrongs and asserted that the "NC would continue to fight political war with New Delhi and Congress till the Government of India restores autonomy to Jammu and Kashmir". "National Conference is fighting against wrongs done by New Delhi since 1953. They have to undo the wrongs and key lies in restoration of autonomy to Jammu and Kashmir," he told media persons at Naseem Bagh, Srinagar. Whom did Kamaal try to fool? Did he try to fool himself or the Kashmiri Muslims? He fooled only himself and the Kashmiri Muslims, who have already suffered much at the hands of the selfish and opportunistic Kashmiri leadership. There is hardly any leader in Kashmir who is actually committed to what he or she says in public. They are unscrupulous and power-hungry and they always indulge in double-speak. They say one thing in Srinagar, another in Jammu and just the opposite in New Delhi. In Kashmir, they arouse popular passions by speaking against New Delhi. In Jammu, they try to tread a middle path. And, in New Delhi, most of them take a complete U-turn in order to cultivate the powers-that-be. In fact, in New Delhi, they conspire against each other with a view to capturing power in the state. It would have been better for Kamaal to reflect on what the NC had been consistently doing to hoodwink the Kashmiri Muslims and usurp power in the state in the name of people. He should have recalled what his father did to capture power and what his brother and nephew have been doing to retain control over power they last time got in 2009. That he didn't tell media persons that the NC leadership had consistently compromised its stated positions for the sake of personal power and profit and that it continues to do so unabated for the same purpose should establish that he is politically dishonest. Perhaps, he still feels that his nephew might one day induct him in his Council of Ministers, thus enabling him to fulfill his lust for power and pelf. It needs to be noted that Sheikh Abdullah had compromised his ideology in 1974-1975 and captured power. Farooq Abdullah did the same in 1986-1987 for the same purpose. He made a mockery of himself and his party when he didn't sever his ties with the BJP when it contemptuously rejected autonomy committee report and threw it in a dirty dustbin. He maintained political ties with the BJP for the sake of his son Omar Abdullah who that time was in the Union Council of Ministers. Earlier in 1998, he had thrown out of the party Prof Saif-ud-Din Soz. His crime was that he had voted against the BJP-led NDA government during the no-confidence motion. What about Omar Abdullah? Less said the better. Even a naïve knows what this man is doing to remain in power. |
