Sheikh Abdullah was a `small time' school teacher: Rattanpuri | NC shows fissures on Sher-e-Kashmir's birthday | | Early Times Report Jammu, Dec 6: Even as former Chief Minister and National Conference President, Dr Farooq Abdullah stressed need for unity; fissures in the organization became quite visible with senior leaders expressing dismay over the party's functioning. The statements came at a wrong time, believe political circles. It was Sher-e-Kashmir's birth anniversary-a moment for NC workers to rejoice. But the inevitable happened with Rajya Sabha member, Ghulam Nabi Rattanpuri calling Sher-e-Kashmir a `small time' school teacher. This is the first time when a NC leader has dared to use such words for the `baba-e-quom' (father of nation). Ratanpuri said Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah was a small time school teacher empowered by ordinary Kashmiris. "National Conference is the symbol of empowerment of an ordinary Kashmiri and Sheik Muhammad Abdullah himself a small time school teacher," he said. He was responding to Chief Minister's Advisor, Mubarak Gul's statement who had called Rattanpuri a small time broadcaster. The broadcaster turned politician did not stop here. He said NC was run by political novices who had suffocated the veterans in the party. "Today's National Conference is not strong because the 'rats' have taken over after actual heirs of the party have gone into hibernation", he said. Taking a dig at DS Rana, he said, "No Rana, No Maharana and no Maharaja were part of the movement that we call National Conference." Rattanpuri was confronted by Rana during the working committee meeting of the party a few months ago. "He wanted to teach me a lesson when I tried to present the true picture of NC in the Chief Minister's office. He wants to take state back to 1853 when Gulab Singh ruled the state. This shows who calls shots in Chief Minister's office." The Chief Minister, according to Rattanpuri used harsh language to silence him. Former Chief Spokesperson, Dr Mustafa Kamal criticized the Chief Minister. "Had Farooq not been there (Delhi), Omar would have been removed long ago", he said. "New Delhi is not only the National Capital. It is the place where conspiracies against the state are hatched", he added. Mustafa was removed from the post recently following his tirade against army, security agencies, Congress and New Delhi. However, his removal has not gone down well with a section of the National Conference that wants the organization to resist what they call center's onslaught. |
