Christian association pays tribute to Sheikh Abdullah | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Dec 7: Jammu and Kashmir Christian Dalit Association today observed 106th birth anniversary of Sher-i-Kashmir, Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah. Function was organised at Mother Teresa home on Janipur Road. Chairman of the association, S. Peter distributed eatable items, soap cakes, hair oil, towels and other items of daily use among the inmates of the home. He paid rich tributes to Sheikh Abdullah and said that late leader had taken many measures for the upliftment of the Dalits and Christian Dalits. “Sheikh sahib during his tenure as Chief Minister had allotted the land for the Home for Christian destitute and orphans to be lodged in Mother Teresa Charity Home”, he recalled. He said that it was under this background that his death anniversary was observed with the participation of inmates of the home, who are destitute, orphans and handicapped. On the occasion, provincial president National Conference Ratan Lal Gupta who was the chief guest on the occasion cut 106 pound cake and distributed the same among the inmates of the home. Former Minister, Rampal, presided over the function while Ravi Mahajan also paid rich tribute to Sheikh Abdullah and called him messiah of the downtrodden and weaker sections urged the people to follow the footsteps of great soul. Others who were present on the occasion included, NC provincial treasurer Bimla Luthra, Veena Oberoi, Satwant Kaur, Kashmira Singh ex-MLC, Nazir Ahmed and Om Prakash Bali.
