BAJ extended its strike till Dec 10 | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Dec 7: Bar Association Jammu today a General House Meeting held under the chairmanship of its President Adv BS Slathia decided to extend ongoing strike against issue of transfer of registration powers from Judicial Officers to the Executive Officers till December 10.. BAJ Spokesperson stated that lawyers today abstained from appearing in all Courts to press their demand i.e. divesting the Judicial Officers of their powers of registration of documents. Adv Vikram Sharma, General Secretary, informed the House that despite a genuine cause taken up by the Bar Associations, the Govt. is not conducting itself responsibly and is paying no heed to the concerns and grievances of the lawyers and the hardships that will be faced by the general public if the registration powers are snatched from the Judicial Officers as contemplated by the Govt President, BAJ Adv BS Slathia while addressing the House appreciated the Legal fraternity across the State to have woken to the initiative taken up by the Bar Association Jammu and unitedly opposing the reported move of the Govt. in strongest possible manner. President expressed the gratitude for the support extended by the Political Parties and Social Organisations to the cause taken up by the Bar Association with parties like BJP, National Panthers Party, Muslim Federation, Jammu Provincial Peoples Forum, Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta-Senior Politician and MLA extending their unconditional support while agreeing to the view of the Bar Association Jammu. President exhorted the legal fraternity across the State to further intensify their peaceful agitation by holding protest Dharnas by their respective Bar Associations at 11:00 A.M. on Friday i.e. 09-12-2011 as a wakeup call for the Govt. to make it realise the gravity of the situation. Meanwhile Bar Associations of Reasi, Udhampur, Katra, Bhaderwah, Kishtwar, Ramban, R.S.Pura, Samba, Kathua, Poonch, Rajouri, Akhnoor, Bishnah, Hiranagar and all Muffasil and District Bars supported the decision of the General House of the Bar Association Jammu and decided to continue with the strike till Saturday.
