Village Sungal is without water from 20 days
12/7/2011 10:24:29 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
REASI, DEC 7:The residents of village Sungal of block Pouni in teshil and district Reasi are without water supply for the last 20 days.
This was informed by Satya Devi, Panch of village Sungal.
In this connection a delegation of residents of village Sungal under the leadership of their Panch, Satya Devi met Ajeet Kesar, Sarpanch Panchayat Halqa Pouni, here today.
It was informed in the meeting that the villagers are facing a lot of problems due to lack of water supply to the village.
Sungal, a village with a population of about 550 souls, is suffering because of the negligence of the PHE workers deputed there. The PHE workers being local keep on doing their domestic chores leaving aside their duty to supply water to their areas.
When contacted with Executive Engineer PHE, Reasi, Rafiq Ahmed on December 5 and conveyed the grievances of the local people, he said that he has no such information. He assured that he will talk to the concerned Junior Engineer to regulate the water supply to the affected village.
When the water supply was not regulated the next day, the residents further contacted the Executive Engineer PHE, Reasi who said that there was internal dispute between the workers of PHE at Pouni and it has been sorted out and thus the water supply will be regulated soon.
The residents also talked to the Junior Engineer Pouni, Sheetal Gupta on December 6, who has recently joined the new place of his posting at Pouni. He said that he had visited the affected village and water supply has been regulated but the ground reality was that he did not visited the village and the villagers do not get even a single drop of water that day.
But till today the water has not been supplied to the residents. They are dependent on a natural spring which is about 3 Km from the Village, thus creating lots of problems for the villagers. The working class and the students of the village first fetch water from the spring I the morning and then go to their respective places of work and schools. The source of water is open and abandoned and the water is not hygienic. There is every possibility of spreading water borne disease and for this the department of Physical Health Engineering will be responsible.
It is requested to the concerned authorities to punish the culprit workers by transferring them from their home stations to a far off stations so that they can devote time to their duty rather than doing domestic chores at official hours. It is the basic right of the citizen whether he is leaving in a city or a village to have a sufficient supply of water to their homes as they pay for it.
When contacted, Junior Engineer PHE Pouni, Sheetal Gupta informed that he has issued directions to the PHE staff under him in this regard and he will personally monitor the problematic area tomorrow to ensure water supply as early as possible. He further said that the delay in fixing the problem is due to his newness to the place of posting as it is mostly a hilly terrain. He said that he is aware of the problems being faced by the villagers and assured that he is making every effort to regulate water supply.
