| Youth with permanent tattoos barred in Army | | |  EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Dec 7:Army today said youth with permanent printed tattoos on their body has been banned from being recruited in the Armed forces.
"The youth with tattoos printed on their body, which are not removable, will not be recruited in the force despite their participation in the recruitment rallies,’’ Brigadier Vinod Raizada, Deputy Director General Recruiting (Punjab and J and K), HQ Recruiting Zone, Jalandhar Cantt told press conference here.
Brigadier Raizada had visited Akhnoor in context with the four-day recruitment rally in the Army in which about 15,000 youth from different districts of the Jammu Province participated.
"Youth found with tattoos printed on their bodies have been temporarily rejected from the rally,’’ the DDG Recruitment said adding that they can participate in the rally only after clearing the tattoo and those having permanent tattoos, have to undergo various blood tests.
“As tattoos are one of the major reasons of spreading dreaded diseases, so under preventive measures, an order was issued recently in November by the Ministry of Defence and it is strictly being implemented at a recruitment rally in Akhnoor,’’ the Brigadier added.
He said about 30 per cent of youngsters, who came from across the Jammu province were sent back from the recruitment rally in four days for having tattoos printed on their body.
He added, “Since the response for Soldier Technical category for All India All Castes candidates of Jammu is poor, it has been decided that all Army Recruitment Rallies of Jammu and Kashmir anywhere in future for Soldier Technical category will also be opened for all districts of the state." The first phase of rally would complete tomorrow in which youth from five districts of Jammu region namely Jammu, Samba, Kathua, Rajouri and Poonch participated for Soldier General Duty category.
Officiating Defence Spokesperson SN Acharya said despite the winter and rainy weather conditions, there was overwhelming response of candidates at Akhnoor and approximately 15,000 candidates reported.
