Menace of growing number of vehicle in J&K | Jammu may turn most congested city in traffic density toppling Tokyo the NO 1 | | Asif Iqbal Naik Jammu Dec 7: The winter capital of Jammu and Kashmir is all set to become the number one city as far as strength of the number of registered vehicle is concerned. As per the unabated rate of number of registered vehicle in Jammu district is concerned with major thrust on Jammu city, the District is all set to cross the 5 lac mark by the end of March 2012 as 30000-4000 new vehicles add to the roads in Jammu District every year. According to the official figures, the registered vehicle in Jammu and Kashmir with the motor vehicle department by the end of March 2010 are 7,37,577 and among 7,37,577 vehicles, 4,62,714 are registered in Jammu Division with 64487 as Commercial and 3,98, 227 vehicles are registered as Non-Commercial. In Jammu Division out of 4,62,714 Vehicles, 4,07,400 are registered in Jammu District alone by the end of March 2010, the registered vehicle for Jammu District is likely to cross the five lac mark. After Jammu District, Srinagar District is not too far as far as number of vehicle registration is concerned.
