| ANKUR CELEBRATES 1ST RAISING DAY | | | Jammu, Jan 11 The ‘ANKUR Children Home, Reasi’ completed its one year of eventful existence. One would recall that Home was inaugurated by Shri Ghulam Nabi Azad, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir amidst big fanfare on 10 January, last year. The 41 children of the Home appeared a totally transformed lot with confidence writ large on their faces. Bubbling with energy and enthusiasm, the children participated in a short but remarkable function held in the precincts of ‘ANKUR’ today. Notwithstanding the pressure of ongoing examinations, the children staged a short cultural programme. Commemorating ‘ANKUR’s’ maiden Raising, Master Abdul Latif, a student of 8th standard studying in Government High School, Kamal Danga, Reasi brought out, during his introduction speech, the brief history of ‘ANKUR’ underlining the role of Indian Army in transformation of lives of the ‘ANKUR Children Home, Reasi’. Speaking to the media on the occasion, Mrs Zeenat Bhatt, the warden, expressed her unbound happiness and satisfaction on the positive changes that took place in the past one year in the children home. ‘ANKUR’ has grown from strength to strength during last one year. The children commenced their formal education – were admitted to the best schools available in Reasi viz St Lawrence Academy, Presentation Convent and Government High School. During the year while Northern Command AWWA gifted a school Bus and 16 Corps AWWA presented a water cooler for the institution. Many dignitaries visited ‘ANKUR’, Besides the landmark visit of Mrs Kirti Kapoor, the ex President AWWA Northern Command, visit of Mrs Mary Fallon wife of Admiral William J Fallon, US Navy Commander United States Pacific Command (USPACOM) will be cherished by the children always and every time, said a PIB (Defence Wing) release. |
