4 attempts to smuggle timber foiled in Samba | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Dec 08: Four attempts of smugglers to carry timber clandestinely were today foiled by police at different places in Samba. SSP (Samba) Israr Khan said cops, led by Ghagwal police station SHO, Inspector Tilak Raj Bhardwaj , apprehended Jagroop Singh, son of Rasal Singh of Gurah Jattan, Ghagwal, while he was smuggling timber in tractor trolley (JK21/0515). In another incident, cops of Vijaypur police station, led by SHO, Inspector Kuldeep Raj, seized two truck-loads of timber in the area. Another police party, headed by Bari Brahmna police SHO, Inspector Arun Jamwal, seized a truck (JK02A/6215) loaded with timber from Balole bridge. The police party also seized a tractor trolley (JK02AG/3866), which was loaded with illegally felled timber, from Smailpur Chowk. The SSP said the timber smugglers were also indulging in the felling of other green trees and supplying them to various brick kilns. For this, they had been managing permission from the concerned divisional forest officers, he added.
