Regional Level ‘Community Radio awareness workshop’ begins | | | Early Times Report JAMMU , December 8 : Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India, New Delhi in association with Commonwealth Educational Media Centre for Asia (CEMCA) in collaboration with the University of Jammu organised Regional Level Community Radio Awareness Workshop from December 8 to December 10 in the University of Jammu. Prof R D Sharma, Dean Academic Affairs, University of Jammu was the chief guest in the inaugural function while Dr. R .Shreedher, Director, CEMCA, New Delhi presided over the function. About 25 participants from Rajasthan. Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Haryana and Uarakhand are participating in the workshop. In all 13 experts from the outside the state and many other officials from the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Government of India along with officials of Wireless Planning Cell, the Ministry of Telecommunication, Community Radio experts, Representatives from Operational Community Radio Stations, Representatives of Community Radio Forum and Association are also participating. In the inaugural function of the three day workshop Prof. R D Sharma, Dean Academic Affairs, University of Jammu was the Chief Guest while Dr. R . Shreedhar, Director CEMCA presided over the function. Prof. Jasbir Singh, NSS, Programme Coordinator, University of Jammu welcomed the chief guest, experts, resource persons, participants, invited guests and students.. The University can broadcast programmes for students and community within the radius of 15 KMS. Dr. R Shreedhar, Director, CEMCA in his address higlighted the contents of the workshop. He said that it is the 32nd workshop on community radio awareness and 28th to be organised by the CEMCA He said that such facility is important and useful not only in peace times but during natural calamities like Tsumani, earthquake, flood etc. Inderjeet Grewal from Community Radio Station Cell, Ministry of Information & Broadcasting said that out of 970 applications for establishing Community Radio Station 160 got permission of which 97 were Educational Institutions. Prof. R D Sharma , Dean, Academic Affairs, University of Jammu said that it is a matter of pride for .the university of Jammu to hold such a workshop expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting for granting permission to establish Community Radio Station on the campus.
