Coldest night at Gulmarg after snowfall on upper reaches in Kashmir | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT SRINAGAR, Dec 8:Gulmarg in Kashmir valley experienced coldest night of this winter season as minus 7.2 degrees Celsius minimum temperature was recorded at the world famous ski resort. The temperature in Gulmarg dipped to biting cold after the upper reaches experienced fresh moderate to heavy snowfall while plains were lashed by rains. However, the cloudy weather and rains in the plains, including summer capital, Srinagar, ended the long dry and cold weather, much to the delight of people after the minimum temperature witnessed improvement. A Met department official said here this afternoon that light to moderate rain or snow could occur at few places in the Jammu and Kashmir during the next 24 hours. However, the weather will remain mainly dry during subsequent two days, he said. He said the sky will remain cloudy in the summer capital Srinagar tomorrow when the maximum will be around 5 degrees, 3.5 notches less than today. However, it will be about one degree above normal. The spokesman said the minimum in Srinagar tomorrow would be around 2 degree, which will be three degree above normal. He said people in Srinagar woke up to a relatively warm morning after the minimum was recorded 3.5 degrees following 4.7 mm rainfall till 8 am. It was four degree above normal. The minimum temperature at Pahalgam was 0.2 degree while Kokernag recorded 0.6 degree, Kupwara 1.0 degree and Qazigund 2.2 degree minimum temperature this morning. There was no let up in the cold in Ladakh region where people continued to shiver. At Leh it was minus 9.2 degrees while Kargil recorded minus 7.6 degrees minimum temperature. However, it was between minus 12 degree to minus 25 degree in the upper reaches in the region which remained cut off from the rest of the state due to closure of Zojila pass from December 1.
