BAJ stir to retain powers of registration valid: CCI
12/8/2011 10:33:20 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Dec 8:President Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Jammu Y V Sharma stated that the on going agitation of Bar Association Jammu (BAJ) against the decision of the Government to take the powers of registration from the judiciary and to give it to the revenue department is based on valid reasons because it will cause a lot of inconvenience to general public.
In a press statement issued here today, Chamber of Commerce & Industry is of the view that the existing systems should not be demolished and if need be it should be properly improved by bringing in suitable modifications.
The judiciary and lawyers is an important organ of the society rendering useful service and to take their services away in any way would create a chaotic situation. Revenue Department is no doubt a responsible department but it is not free from the lacunae which are proposed to be filled up by shifting the responsibility from judiciary to this department. Efficiency is the hallmark of good governance and no one can claim that judiciary can not discharge its duties efficiently.
Chamber of Commerce & Industry appeals to the government that a way should be found out to bring normalcy by persuading the advocates to withdraw their agitation by restoring the previous system. Such a long strike by any section of the society does not speak of good on the part of the government. Decisions should be made by consulting all the stakeholders and not to create a tense situation in the name of efficiency.
