Gulmarg colder than Leh; fresh snowfall on upper reaches | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Sriangar, Dec 9 : The world famous ski resort of Gulmarg was colder than Leh while upper reaches in the Kashmir Valley experienced more snow, resulting in minor drop in the temperature. Traffic on 300-km-long Srinagar-Jammu national highway was disrupted for few hours in the morning due to overnight snowfall and slippery road conditions while the Ladakh region remained cut off from the rest of the state due to closure of Zojila pass.
A Met department spokesman said there would be light rain or snow at few places in the state during the next 24 hours.
However, due to cloudy sky the maximum and minimum temperatures remained above normal.
Gulmarg with minus 5 degrees Celsius minimum temperature was more colder than Leh, where it was minus 1 degrees, an improvement of more than eight notches against yesterday.
The spokesman said about seven inches of fresh snowfall was recorded on Gulmarg slopes since last evening. However, it was more than one feet at Affarwat, Kongdori and Khilanmarg. Due to snowfall the minimum temperature was about two degrees more than that of yesterday when it was minus 7.2 degrees.
The health resort of Pahalgam, base camp of holy Amarnath cave shrine in south Kashmir Himalyas, received more than a feet of fresh snowfall.
The minimum temperature recorded the same temperature as was on yesterday 0.2 degrees
