J&K Police to set up two cyber cells to deal cyber crime: DIG Farooq | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Dec 9: In a bid to tackle rising cyber crime, Jammu and Kashmir Police would soon establish two special cyber cells in twin districts of Jammu and Srinagar to curb the menace. "In view of cyber crime, the police department has planned to set up two special cyber cells at Jammu and Srinagar cities to tackle and counter any cyber crime related incident,’’ Farooq Khan Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Jammu-Kathua Range said this afternoon. While addressing a press conference ahead of Second Police Martyr’s Memorial North Zone Inter-Club T-20 Cricket Championship to be held from Dec 11-Jan 8 at Mini Stadium, Kathua, DIG Khan said the Department is aware of cyber crime and all efforts are being made to counter the crime which also includes establishing two cyber cells in the state. On border management, the DIG said, “With the cooperation of security forces and para-military troops, state police is also maintaining vigil on anti-national elements along the international border and within the city as well.” Khan said the Village Defence Committees (VDCs) have been strengthened to thwart any nefarious designs of the anti-socials adding, “with the onset of winter, the intruders may try to sneak into our territory taking an advantage of fog but we are prepared and ready to foil attempts.” Further to a query about rise of narcotics smuggling in the state, the DIG Khan underlined that police have been put on alert and in the recent past and police has successfully foiled the bids to smuggle the huge consignments of contrabands like charas, poppy husk and intoxicants. Earlier, the DIG Jammu Kathua briefed about the championship being organised in the memory of those who sacrificed their lives for the nation while performing their duties. He said that a total of 28 teams from across the state will participate in the tournament to be played on knock out basis. He added that the winner will be rewarded cash prize of Rs one lakh and a trophy while the runners up will be awarded Rs 51,000 and a trophy.
