| Urdu dept, JU to organise international seminar on Manto | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Dec 9: The Department of Urdu, University of Jammu is organizing a two day International Seminar on the different dimensions of reputed short story writer of the sub-continent Sadat Hassan Manto on January 12 and 13.
The international seminar, which is likely to be inaugurated by the Governor, is a part of centenary celebrations of Sadat Hassan Mantoo which is being organized all over the sub-continent.
Near about 30 delegates from India, Pakistan and Bangladesh are participating in this mega event which would be first of its kind in the country. This was disclosed here today by Head of Urdu Department Prof Shohab Inayat Malik.
He informed that paper would be presented on the life and works of Sadat Hassan Manto in the International seminar by reputed critics of sub-continent including Pakistan, Bangladesh and India. A Drama based on Mantoo’s Short stories would also be staged on the occasion by the reputed play writer and actor Mushtaq Kak and his team. The departmental Affairs Committee had also decided to publish all the papers which would be presented in the said seminar in its Research Journal TASASUL. Manto had stayed at Batote for a month when he was ill. He had written some memorable short stories on Batote. To pay tributes to the legendary short story writer Sadat Hassan Manto a Mehfil-e-Afsana would be also organized at Batote.
