| ReT’s, EV’s continue protest | | | Jammu, Jan 11 Continuing their protest for consecutive day today to reinforce the realization of their demands, Rahbar-e-Taleem teachers and Education Volunteers held a protest dharna at Indira chowk here today. Over eighteen Rahbar-e-Taleem teachers and Education Volunteers were injured, two of them critically yesterday, when Police resorted to cane charging during a protest demonstration held by them to pres their demands They were demanding enhancement of monthly honorarium to basic pay of regular teachers, inclusion of five years qualifying service in seniority, regularization of Education Volunteers and ReT Teachers after 2 years, reduction of qualifying service for regularization from five years to three years and extending provision of SRO -43 to ReT Teachers. The protesting teachers said that RET teachers have infused a new lease of life in the existing education system and proved instrumental in uplifting the education standard of the state but they are repaid peanuts for their services. “Rs. 1500/- per month is a humiliating honorarium for candidates who posses PhD and MA degrees” said a disappointed casual teacher. Criticizing government for turning down their demands, the forum president said “finance is no problem with government when it comes to the enhancement of the salaries of legislators and ministers” adding “but when there is a demand from general public government starts puts forth the excuse of financial crunch”. |
