NSF demands submission of report | Irregularities in JU | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Dec 9: The National Secular Forum (NSF) has asked the Chief Secretary Madhav Lal to expedite the inquiry pertaining to the irregularities in Jammu University (JU) and submit the same to the State Government for action against the guilty. Addressing a press conference here today, NSF president Vikas Sharma that the Higher Education Department had issued notice to the Vice Chancellor Vide No. HE/Recog/Adm/2009-80 dated 2-June-2011 under sub section (3) of section II of Kashmir and Jammu University Act 1969. The notice explained that Pro-Chancellor (Chief Minister) intends to cause enquiry to be made by four member high level committee. The committee includes Chief Secretary, Principal Secretary (Planning and Development), Commissioner Secretary Finance and Commissioner Secretary Higher Education. Sharma expressed apprehension that Chief Secretary Madhav Lal might have conspired with the JU Vice Chancellor owing to which the inquiry has deliberately been postponed. "A committee headed by Chief Secretary was given the task to inquire into the administrative impropriety, favouritism, financial irregularities etc against the VC and other officers of the Jammu University. Since then six months have been passed but the report has not been compiled by the four-member committee", he added. Sharma alleged that Vice Chancellor Dr Varun Sahni had closed door meeting with the Chief Secretary, after which the probe has been delayed. He suspected that both have struck some deal to settle the inquiry. He asked the Chief Secretary to complete the probe within days and submit the report to the Governor Office, otherwise, series of protests will be held against him. Chief Secretary must come out with a statement as to why the probe is been delayed. The matter is of utmost importance to the University affairs. The State Government shall also seek explanation from Madhav Lal. Also, the deal between Sahni and Madhav Lal is also requiring to be discovered.
