Farooq flayed for his ‘liquor sale remarks’ | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Srinagar Dec 9: Flaying National Conference President, Farooq Abdullah, for advocating opening of liquor shops in Kashmir, Ameer Karwani Islami, Maulana Ghulam Rasool Hami, Friday sought a complete ban on the sale of liquor in Valley and termed it as an ‘un-Islamic step.’ Taking strong notice of Union Ministers remarks about ‘opening of liquor vends in Kashmir valley’ Hami today while addressing a Friday gathering at Saraibala said, “these remarks need to be condemned in strong words.’ “It is unfortunate that these leaders who call themselves Muslims are brazenly calling for making un-Islamic activities in Kashmir common place,” “Islam has declared liquor as prohibited (haram), and Farooq Abdullah should bear in mind that he cannot dictate terms to the Muslim majority in Jammu and Kashmir,” Hami said. He also expressed apprehensions about being targeted by some elements and said that a particular lobby was trying to “get me killed or booked under the Public Safety Act.” “But their devious schemes won’t prevent me from speaking out the truth,” he said. Further reacting to the Government of India’s statement that the Centre funds 374 madrassas (Islamic seminaries) in Kashmir, Hami demanded a probe should be carried out to reveal the names of madrassas which receive such grant as it is a bundle of lies. “Karwani Islami runs several madrassas (Islamic seminaries) in state and we have never received a single paisa from either the state or central government. The names of madrassas which receive such grant needs to be revealed through an impartial investigation,” he said.
