Paras guides J&K to first innings lead, Orissa 139/3 at stumps

JAMMU, Dec 09: Middle order batsman Paras Sharma played sensibly when it mattered the most and helped J&K to gain 15-run first innings lead against Orissa in the ongoing Cooch Behar U-19 Plate Group-A match at GGM Science College Hostel Ground, here today. However, Orissa were comfortably placed at 139 for the loss of 3 wickets in 42 overs when the stumps were drawn today.
Earlier, beginning the day from 82/3, the two overnight batsmen Paras Sharma and Aaqib Nazir took the score to 123 runs, before Aaqib was dismissed by P Paramanik at his individual score of 37 runs. His dismissal followed the collapse as Jatin Wadhawan (11), Soumay Jain (01), Jasvinder Singh (00) and SS Rizvi (10) were sent back one after the other and the scoreboard read 162/8 at this stage. However, Paras showed application and grit in guided the tail-enders Umar Nazir Mir (09) and Rohit Sharma (05*) to help Jammu and Kashmir score 210 runs and gain a lead. He scored 75 runs including six boundaries, while Aaqib earlier smashed 7 fours in his brief knock.
Orissa, in reply, were in comfortable position at 139/3 in the second innings at stumps today. RR Singh (64) and SD Praharaj (4) were at the crease. AR Sarangi and AA Barik also contributed 24 and 29 runs to the total respectively. For J&K, speedsters Rohit Sharma and Soumay Jain and leg-spinner SS Rizvi claimed one wicket apiece. Meanwhile, the match is being officiated by Ravi Shankar and Manish Jain as umpires, while Feroz Gha-yas is the match referee.
