Complete dominance by Jammu district in Athletics | | | early times report JAMMU, Dec 09: Host Jammu district completely dominated in field and track events winning overall championship trophies in all the three age groups of under-14, under-17 and under-19 in the three-day divisional level inter-district athletics meet held under the banner of Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS) at the University of Jammu fields, here. In all, Jammu district athletes won 15 gold medals to top the medal tally in all three age groups. District Samba boys followed Jammu in points tally. Anil Singh of district Samba, who contested in under-19 age group, was adjudged best athlete of the tournament. On the concluding day today, Deputy Director DYSS, SS Bali was chief guest, who along with other officials of the department presented medals to the winners of various events in different age groups. In the meantime, former top athlete of the state and now Physical Education Teacher with DYSS, Nirmal Singh said that best athletes out of this tournament shall be representing Jammu Division in the state level meet in near future. Meanwhile, four events held on the concluding day today and out of these three were won by Jammu district and gold in fourth went to district Samba. The Detailed Results: Under-19 year: Triple Jump: Akhter Mehmood, Jammu, Ist; Sarfraz Ahmed, Rajouri, 2ndand Roshan Sharma, Samba, 3rd. Under-17 year: Rakesh Singh, Jammu, Ist; Waqar Younas, Poonch, 2nd and Shubam Singh, Ramban, 3rd. 4x100 mts relay: Jammu, Ist; Udhampur, 2nd and Kathua district, 3rd. Five-kilometer walk: Gulshan Kumar, Samba, Ist; Mohd Sarfraz, Poonch, 2nd and Mohd Naseem, Jammu, 3rd. |
