Rush in Govt hospitals increases many fold as doctors stop private practice | | | early times report
JAMMU, Dec 9: With doctors stopping private practice , the rush in Government hospitals have tremendously increased for last some days. The huge queues of patients are seen in Government Medical College (GMC) Hospital and associate hospitals. The sudden decision to stop private practice by doctors has led to the miseries of common man who have to wait for hours together in OPD to get themselves examined in the hospitals. The long wait by patients has also led to verbal duels between the patients, their attendants and hospital employees in OPDs. A hospital employee was subjected to a wrath of the patients and their attendants in OPD Medicines in GMC yesterday when some people who had accompanied their relatives to have their medical check up in hospital accused the employee by deliberately keeping their slips on side. They alleged that they were waiting from early in the morning and till 2 pm they could not get the number to have a medical examination in OPD. However the situation was saved from taking a critical turn after some saner elements prevailed both of them and the clash was averted. The same happened today also as hundreds of patients waiting in OPDs were put to many hardships in getting them selves examined by the doctors. Ramesh Kumar who was accompanying his mother to get her examined from a cardiologist said that`` I am waiting from 10 am and it is quarter past two and still we are waiting for out turn., Moreover we could not consult the doctor of our choice as all doctors are already over busy. Meanwhile sources said the Government is also facing a lot of problem in ordering the blanket ban on private practice of doctors due to lack of proper infrastrucual facilities. Though GMC has been upgraded to AIIMS level but still a lot needs to be done so that it can fully compete AIIMS, sources added. Sources said the hospital not only have the lack of doctors and paramedical staff but also other facilities. Even there are no proper ventilators for patients in the event of emergency. In the event of the enforcement of the ban fully the problems will compound for the hospital administration to a great extent. This is the reason that the two ministers of Health as well as Medical Education have made a recommendation to Cabinet placing entire factual position before it. The two ministers have made it clear to the government the probable problems being faced by the Government in the event of ban. Sources said in the event of the enforcement of ban a large number of specialist doctors will quit the job in case the Government failed to sanction Non practicing Allowance (NPA) for them. This would lead to a serious situation and create more problems for the administration, sources added. |
