| Chib for upgrading firefighting equipment in medical institutions | | | JAMMU, SRINAGAR 10- A high level meeting was held here today under the Chairmanship of Minister for Medical Education, Technical Education, Youth Services and Sports R.S. Chib to review the steps being taken for prevention of fire hazards in the Government as well as private medical education institutions. The meeting was held in the backdrop of recent tragic fire incident at a private hospital in Kolkata.
The meeting was attended by Principal, Government Medical College Jammu, Additional Secretary to Government/Deputy Secretary to Government, Health & Medical Education Department, Representative of the Indira Gandhi Government Dental College, Jammu Chairman, ASCOMS Hospital, Sidhra Jammu, Chairman, Institute of Dental Sciences, Sehora, Jammu and Chairman, Jammu Institute of Ayurveda and Research.
Chib issued categoric instructions to all the Heads of Medical Institutions of Jammu and Kashmir and private institutions operating in the capital cities of Jammu and Srinagar to ensure that fire fighting equipments installed in these institutions are working properly. He stressed on upgradation and augmentation of the equipment to the optimum level of safety to prevent any fire related incident.
He further directed that the hospital authorities in the Government as well as Private Sector to ensure the proper storage of medicines, fuels and other combustible materials in their respective institutions in order to prevent any tragic incident due to fire. Besides, all electricity wirings should be checked and properly insulated and MCB Circuits be installed. In addition to this Ramps in the Hospitals and Nursing Homes be created so as to ensure quick entry and exit in case of any such eventuality.
He also asked the management of the Hospitals that all possible efforts including training of manpower to effectively handle such emergent situations should be made in order to avoid any such mishappenings in their respective institutions.
