Rs.68,200/- intoxicating drugs seized by Drugs & Food Control deptt

JAMMU, DECEMBER 10- On the basis of specific information regarding import of intoxicating drugs from the neighboring States, a Naka was laid at Check Post Lakhanpur by the Inspectorate Staff of State Drug Controller.
Numbers of commercial vehicles were searched and their invoices were compared with goods being imported. On search of Truck No. JK05A-1996, a huge quantity of Recodex Syrup 100 ml. B.No.WBI-1140,(700 bottles) and B.No.WBI-1106 (299 bottles) manufactured by Biogenetics Drugs Pvt. Ltd. Jharmazri Baddi, District Solan (H.P.) and marketed by M/S Wockhardt Ltd. Wockhardt Towers, Bandra Kurla Complex, Mumbai was found being imported into the State. The consignment was bound for Sapphire Enterprises, Srinagar, Licence No. 16173-74 and the invoice for the same was raised by National Pharma, Ist Floor Onkar Bhawan, Bhagirath Palace, Delhi Invoice No. 489 dt. 08.12.2011. The said drug contains codeine phosphate as one of the active ingredients and is one of the preparations being misused for intoxication.
The Inspectorate Staff posted at Srinagar have been alerted and instructed to carry out simultaneous raid in the premises of M/S Sapphire Enterprises, Srinagar. The batch numbers of the said consignment were not tallying with the invoice and also as the Depot of M/S Wockhardt Ltd. is located at Jammu and all their operations of distributions / business are being monitored from that location. The billing of the said product from outside the State is being investigated to unfold the truth behind the proxy. The whole consignment valuing approximately Rs.68,200/- was seized by the Inspectorate Staff under Section 22(1) ( C ) of the Drugs & Cosmetics Act, 1940 and the investigation in the matter is still going on and efforts are being made to establish liaison with respective Drug Control Authorities, NCT, New Delhi to authenticate the genuiness of the invoices produced during preliminary investigation. The operation was carried out under the supervision of the Deputy Controller, Drugs & Food, Jammu Lotika Khajuria and seizure was conducted by Nazar-ul-Islam, Drug Inspector, Lakhanpur and Shri Vipan Kachroo, Drug Inspector, Kathua. Satish Gupta, Controller Drugs & Food, J&K has made an appeal to the public to cooperate with the functionaries of the Organization and provide inputs which could lead to exposing of the nefarious elements indulging in the mal practices like importing of intoxicating drugs into State with malafide intentions and in contravention to the provisions of Drugs & Cosmetics Act, 1940 and Rules there under.
