12/10/2011 11:19:49 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, Dec 10: For the time being the Congress high command the UPA Government have decided not to alter the three-year old political and administrative arrangement in Jammu and Kashmir but there are reports that he will be monitored carefully by the high command of its ally.
Authoritative sources said that the senior congress functionaries in the AICC had recently reviewed the political and security scenario that exists in Jammu and Kashmir in the context of the demand of a section of leaders of the state unit of the Congress for change of guar d in the state and it decided to keep the present political arrangement undisturbed.
Sources said that the Congress high command had also been briefed by the Union Home Minister, P Chidambaram, who as per anticipations has reportedly have advised the party high command not to accept the demand of the Kashmir congress leaders for rotational chief Ministership.
According to these reports, the Congress led UPA Government has come to believe that introduction of rotational Chief Ministership at this juncture could result in political instability which could destabilise peace in the state.
However, the Congress high command has not sealed the possibilities for a change of guard and instead it has advised Omar Abdullah to take into confidence the Congress leaders in Jammu and Kashmir, especially the PCC Chief, Saif-ud-Din Soz.
Reports said that the Congress high command would watch the developments carefully and once Omar was seen flouting the high command's suggestions it may consider introduction of rotational Chief Ministership as the only viable alternative.
The party high command has also directed the leaders of the state unit to close their ranks and stop washing the dirty linen in public.
In addition to this Omar Abdullah has been advised to refrain from vocing his feelings on sensitive issues including revocation of AFSPA and withdrawal of troops besides the stat's accession with India.
