Omar for development of Katra as model township | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT KATRA (REASI), Dec 10: Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah Saturday reviewed the progress of development of Katra town at a high level meeting he chaired here this morning. He also ascertained the status of the implementation of the decisions taken in a meeting chaired by Governor, N N Vohra regarding the development of this holy town. Omar Abdullah was given detailed brief about the implementation and status of progress on various works. He fixed March 2011 time frame for completion of the flood protection works under implementation in the town. “You should complete the works by middle of March so that Governor would be requested to inaugurate the project”, he told the officers. Receiving PowerPoint presentation on the revised Master Plan formulated by a consultancy company for the Katra town, the Chief Minister directed the concerned departments to examine the master plan fully and come up with their reaction and suggestions so that forward movement in this regard will take place. A master plan for comprehensive and balanced development of an area of about 44 kilometres has been formulated to cater to the growing needs of this pilgrimage township. Chief Minister also reviewed the plan formulated for the construction of bus terminal in the town. The plan was also explained through a PowerPoint presentation in the meeting. Omar Abdullah said that Katra being the basic camp for the pilgrims of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi should be full of all facilities. He stressed on holistic and comprehensive development of the town on scientific and modern lines to cater to the futuristic needs. Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Chief Minister, Tara Chand said that the all round development of Katra should be the benchmark of the master plan. He said the new bus terminal will enhance transport facilities to a greater extent.
