Three day long 'Nagot Cultural Festival' inaugurated

REASI, Dec 10: The three day long Nagot Cultural festival was today inaugurated at Reasi with a spectacular cultural show by various dance groups from across the Jammu region.

Designed with an objective to revive and promote the richness, depth and pageantry of Jammu’s centuries-old culture for worldwide appreciation and enjoyment, the festival offers a unique opportunity to witness many of Dogra’s traditions and folk heritage.

During the fest, traditional artists from all parts of Reasi district will camp at the venue to perform throughout the festival days.

Other major attractions of the festival are the exhibition of local handicrafts and artifacts by the Hari Saran Cultural Centre, Bakkal.

This is the first of its kind cultural bonanza in this part of region, where the world’s tallest Railway Bridge is coming up.

Speaking on the occasion, Natrang Director Balwant Thakur said that this is a unique occasion for the traditional artists where over twenty different forms of traditional arts are being showcased. “This is the first ever initiative to revive the dying performing traditions of the state”, he said.

The festival organized by Ministry of Culture, Government of India, J&K Chief Minister’s Fund, and Ministry of Tourism and Culture, J&K Government was inaugurated by Minister for Technical, Medical Education R S Chib.

Lighting of the ceremonial lamp by the Minister marked the commencement of the festival.

Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said the cultural festivals promoted national integration and communal harmony and build bridges of understanding among the people.
