12/10/2011 11:34:15 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Dec 10: In protest against failure of the authorities to redress pending issues, the J&K SRTC Workers Union today observed a day long token strike which includes chakka jam and closure of all offices of the Corporation right from Delhi to Ladakh.
The protesting SRTC employees said that in the year 2009 an agreement with Government was entered into comprising different issues duly approved by the Government for rehabilitation of employees of SRTC vide No: Tpt/ Acctts/ Bgt-Spl/ funds 2008-11 dated 3.12.2009.
They said it was promised by the Government to implement decision including adoption of Himachal Pradesh SRTC rules in JKSRTC as provided under RTC Act-1950 which includes enhancement of gratuity, 60 years as superannuation age, implementation of 6th pay commission etc. But unfortunately Government has failed to implement/ fulfill its commitment.
Till now employees of SRTC were relying on the assurance of Chief Secretary to Government, who was Chairman of government appointed committee.
The protesters said even after many communications were made with higher authorities by the J&K SRTC Employees Union no sincere attempt has been made by the Government/ Management to respond in affirmative. Instead of considering the demand as agreed by the Government management of SRTC has adopted apathetic approach in dealing with the demands.
They said that keeping in view the delay tactics of the Government and management of JKSRTC, employees were forced to adopt agitation path.
