Workshop on “Health and Hygiene” held | | | Jammu , Dec 10: GDC Paloura today organized a one day workshop on “Health and Hygiene” in collaboration with Department of Life Long Learning, University of Jammu in the college campus . Prof. Madhu Gupta and Dr. Vikas Jamwal of Department of PSM, ASCOMS Sidhra Jammu were the resource persons on the occasion. Principal of the college Prof (Dr.)Hemla Aggarwal presided over the function and stressed on the need for spreading awareness among the student community regarding the correction of unsanitary prevalent practices that can have negative impact on them and their family’s health. She said that such workshops empower student with the necessary skills to ensure healthy life style. Dr. Vikas Jamwal in his address talked of range of health problems, including physiological, psychological and emotional problems, which can lead to high mortality rate. He deliberated on adolescent health and the various problems like anxiety, depression associated with this particular group and suggested mental therapy, counseling sessions as the solution for these problems. He said that alcohol is the easy way out of stress but can lead one to great trouble and therefore such habits should be avoided. He further stressed that adolescents should discuss their problems with parents and teachers to find out the simple solutions to big issues in their lives. He said that healthy eating habits should be inculcated in the young generation which includes balanced diet full of vitamins, minerals and fiber, lack of which can lead to decrease in immune system. Prof. Madhu Gupta awared them with regard of the ill effect of bad hygiene practices on the lives of the student in particular and society in general. According to her sanitation must respond to the demands of communities and should link to improved hygiene awareness. She said that hygiene must be accompanied by environment and health education. She discussed basic food hygiene, basic health and safety which aim to raise safety standards. She also talked on the importance of eating well and follow general hygiene practices to prevent the spreading of germs and diseases. In the end interactive session was held between the students and the resource persons who cleared their doubts pertaining to health and hygiene issues. Dr. Sandeep Singh of Department of Life Long Learning University of Jammu was also present on the occasion. Prof. Nisha Bhagat conducted the proceedings of the workshop.
