J&K suffers huge defeat against Orissa in Cooch Behar trophy | | | JAMMU, Dec 10: Jammu and Kashmir under-19 team suffered a humiliating defeat against Orissa by 276 runs on the third day of the 4-day match of the ongoing Cooch Behar trophy at GGM Science College Hostel ground, here today. Earlier, resuming from an overnight score of 139/3, Orissa piled-up a mammoth total before declaring their innings at 391 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in 91.4 overs, thus setting a target of 367 runs for J&K. SM Lenka (79), RR Singh (70), SB Patra (63) and AB Bhatta (42) were the main contributors. For J&K, Umar Nazir Mir, Rohit Sharma and SS Rizvi scalped 3 wickets apiece, while Soumay Jain and Paras Sharma claimed one wicket each. While chasing a huge target for victory, J&K batsmen crumbled and the whole side bundled-out for a paltry total of 90 runs, thus lost the match by a huge margin of 276 runs. Skipper Sidharth Magotra (46), Aaqib Nazir unbeaten (19) and Soumay Jain (18) were the only three batsmen to cross double figure mark, while seven out of the other eight batsmen fell for naught. Magotra was in sublime touch as he smashed 10 superb boundaries in his 33-ball quick-fire knock, before losing his concentration. HS Pati was the wrecker-in-chief from Orissa, who scalped 5 wickets by conceding just 12 runs in 4.4 overs, while SB Pradhan took 3 wickets and Paramanik one. Orissa had to take only 9 J&K wickets as middle order batsman Pranav Gupta, who opened in the first innings did not bat because of some injury.
