| 24th State Volleyball Championship gets underway Jammu spikers make winning start | | | POONCH, Dec 10: District Jammu made a positive start winning opening ties in both men and women sections in the 24th State Volleyball Championship got underway at Government Degree College Poonch courts, here today.
Besides Jammu, Kathua, Budgam and host Poonch district also won their respective matches to consolidate their position in the league round in this three-day championship.
Similarly, in women’s section, district Jammu and Budgam spikers won their respective matches.
In all, nine teams in men’s section and six in women’s category shall contest on league-cum-knockout basis.
Earlier, the competition was declared open by Additional Superintendent of Police, Jugal Manhas amidst colourful cultural programme presented by students of Nanak Academy. General secretary of Volleyball Association of J&K, Kuldeep Magotra was guest of honour in the inaugural function.
Today’s matches were officiated by penal of technical officials including Sardari Lal, Amarjeet Singh, Rajesh Virdhi, Bashir Ahmed Bakshi, Karan Singh, Dheeraj Sharma, Sanjay Sharma and Wasim Malik.
This championship is being organised by Shaheed Manjit Singh Memorial Volleyball Club and District Poonch Volleyball Association under the aegis of Volleyball Association of J&K.
Prominent among others present in the opening function were Raj Guru, Anchal Singh Jamwal, Akbar Ali, Rajeev Dogra, Rajinder Singh and Ramesh Sharma.

MEN: Jammu bt Ramban 2-1 (25-20, 21-25, 15-08); Kathua bt Rajouri 2-0 (25-17, 26-24); Budgam bt Pulwama 2-0 (25-08, 25-16); Poonch bt Anantnag 2-0 (25-10, 25-12).
WOMEN: Jammu bt Rajouri 2-0 (25-17, 25-10); Budgam bt Pulwama 2-0 (25-20, 25-17).
