Of Farooq's `triple speak' and NC's divisive politics | | | Early Times Report reasi, Dec 10: Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy and President, J&K National Conference, Dr. Farooq Abdullah has said that National Conference denotes unity, amity and progress of Jammu Kashmir. He also criticized Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for speaking three languages at Srinagar, Jammu and New Delhi. He was addressing a public gathering here on today. Criticizing the PDP for its "double-speak and divisive politics", Dr. Farooq alleged that the party was bent upon dividing people in the name of religion and region. "Its leadership befools people in Kashmir, in Jammu and in New Delhi by speaking three different languages on AFSPA and other issues. This party is living on this type of tactics since its inception. Dr Farooq, it seems, has forgotten the comments of Late Indira Gandhi. When NC workers downed their pants in erstwhile Hazuri Bagh in the summer capital to embarrass her in early 80s, she refused to meet a delegation from Kashmir at her Delhi office. She said: "Farooq calls me Mummy in Srinagar, Didi in Jammu and …. in New Delhi." Soon after, Farooq lost his job to his brother-in-law, late GM Shah. And as far as keeping the state united, the credit must go to Maharaja Hari Singh. He could have easily made Dogri as the official language of the state. But he opted for Urdu for very strong reasons. Urdu is spoken and understood in all the regions of the state. NC on the other hand sought autonomy. Autonomy demand was rejected by the people of Jammu. The first seeds of dissension, therefore, were sown by the National Conference. NC has been also accused of discriminating against Jammu region especially in allocation of funds. If voices of separate statehood for Jammu are heard today, NC cannot escape responsibility. |
