| Girl dies after having intramuscular injection at RS Pura | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Dec 10: Tension today gripped RS Pura after an eight-year-old girl died after she was given 'Ceftrix-S' intramuscular injection in a chemist shop in the town.
Tanu (8) of Dangre, RS Pura, was not keeping well for the past few days. Her parents brought her to the tehsil hospital for check-up at about 1.30 pm, police sources said.
After examining her, the doctor, who was on duty, gave her parents a prescription slip. In it, the girl had been advised to have Ceftrix-S (375 mg) injection twice a day.
After leaving the hospital, the parents took the girl to the nearby Janta Medical Hall where a shop attendant gave her the injection, the sources added.
She, however, became unconscious soon after receiving the injection. Her parents then rushed her to the hospital where doctors told them that she had already died.
After the matter came to his notice, RS Pura police station SHO, Inspector Paramjit Singh rushed to the spot and pacified the agitated family members of the girl.
Later, a team of drug control department also reached the spot. Police and drug control department officials later seized Ceftrix-S injections from all the chemist shops in the town for examination.
Sources said the injections were seized in the presence of a first class magistrate. The RS Pura police had registered a case in this regard.
