Jammu, Dec 10: The state government has issued orders banning entry of journalists in civil secretariat before 1 pm. This sudden decision has generated a lot of resentment among journalist fraternity in the state who have been treated as the common man by the powers that be at the helm of affairs in civil secretariat. The government with this decision has treated the journalist fraternity with the common masses denying any special concession to which this community is entertained all over globe.
The decision has been viewed seriously by the members of journalist community and they are up in arms to challenge this decision which is based on high handedness of state coalition led by Omar Abdullah said a journalist from Doda who had recently come to Jammu to have an interview with a minister in civil secretariat. The journalist who had already sought time from the concerned minister to meet him in his office chambers at 11 am who was not allowed to enter secretariat gate by the security men on the plea that there are no special instructions to them for journalists and as per the government order they are to be treated at par with the common man whose entry is not allowed prior to 1 pm.
This annoyed the journalist who had come after crossing a such a long distance to seek an interview from the minister but the refusal to enter the civil secretariat left him high and dry. Later the journalist took the issue with the members of his fraternity at Jammu who viewed the decision seriously. The journalists have decided to take up the issue with the chief minister and apprise him of the concern of state journalists against the government order.
The journalists while expressing their surprise over the sudden decision of the government to bar their entry in the civil secretariat prior to 1 pm said all over the country journalists are given special concessions and J&K is the first state which has issued such an order. They said even during the previous governments the journalists were entitled to enter the civil secretariat premises at any time but Omar Abdullah led coalition is the first government which has issued such an order.
It is pertinent to mention that during the press conference the journalists can enter the civil secretariat at any time but not after such occasions and for that they have to seek special permission for the same which is not accepted to journalist fraternity.
