Cabinet reshuffle 'talk' gains momentum again
Coordination Committee to discuss as main agenda

Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 10: The talk about much awaited cabinet reshuffle has started gaining momentum again with speculations rife that Chief Minister Omar Abdullah may finally make it happen anytime after his government completes three years of coalition in the state. It may take place by the year end but not before the meeting of Coordination Committee meeting which is being scheduled by the alliance partners soon.
The rumours about reshuffle and expansion of the cabinet which has been now delayed for over six months were earlier rife in the month of June when government completed the task of holding Panchayat elections. In fact the government had attributed the delay to the lengthy poll process related with massive exercise of conducting panchayat polls across the state. But that did not materialize and until now the make up and formation of the cabinet is almost same it was three years back when the government came into existence.
Though in between the deferment periods the issue of cabinet expansion and reshuffle came alive a couple of times with names of front runners from both within the ruling NC as well as Congress. It is pertinent to mention that as per the ratio and arrangement of alliance partners and the size of the permissible ministry NC can take one members as minister whereas there are two vacancies for the Congress , one having fallen vacant after quitting of Congress minister Ghulam Ahmad Saroori last year following controversy over his daughter's impersonation case came to fore.
Sources said Omar Abdullah is now contemplating to give practical shape to much overdue exercise of reshuffle so that he can change the make up in terms of allotment of portfolios as also effect expansion by taking on board all the three members as ministers. However, before doing that the senior leaders including the Chief Minister would himself discuss the issue and list of strong contenders who would be taken as 'fresh faces' from both the parties in the Coordination Committee meeting , source said adding that both the parties have again started contemplating the final choices , the list of aspirants being long. Speculations are also rife in the power corridors that there may be more than three fresh entrants in the Omar's Council of ministers as some incumbent ones from both the parties who have completed three years as cabinet ministers and ministers of state may be asked to call it quits time . This has been necessitated due to the pulls and pressures from within both the allies for accommodating senior and deserving ones and reshuffle is the only way that can offer a chance to 'adjusting' political expediency.
While there no final word nor any decision as to who all would be taken in the ministry , one formulation that would be ensured is that a representation from Congress has to be given to Doda district in Jammu region whereas one minister has be there from Kashmir region. The ruling NC in any case has to fill up the vacancy from Valley even as list of strong contenders from both Kashmir region as well as from Jammu.
