Who will Keep Jammu Clean and Healthy
Haider Ali12/11/2011 7:27:54 PM
Our surroundings and our environment are getting so ugly and dirty that we are not aware of the after ill effects of the man made mistakes to the future generations. The road side space are occupied either by the shopkeepers or the parked vehicles, as a result there is no pedestrian path to move on and everyday more and more people face accidents and hit and hit run cases and health of the general public is getting affected because of pollution and dirty environment. Most of the shopkeepers are doing their business outside their shops and it looks as the original shops are kept just for the store purpose. They are keeping their surroundings dirty and overcrowded. There is no space to walk and everything is kept haphazardly.
Size of the commercial vehicles is increasing while the size of the roads is diminishing. The drivers are plying the vehicles on the road rashly and overloaded and breaking the traffic rules. A man for his own convenience is breaking all the traffic rules and adopting wrong and illegal ways at the cost of other lives. New generation is getting impatient and moving towards addiction of drugs, smoking and drinking because of a free hand from the parents and teachers. In all over the Jammu and Kashmir state and Jammu in particular, the shape and environment has turned ugly and dirty.
It is learnt that development of an area depends firstly upon the width and health of its roads and secondly, on the upcoming generation.
Some suggestion to keep our surroundings clean and healthy can be as under:
"Its need of the time to get our administration to be very strict towards health concerns of the society by imposing sky touching punishments for each who is trying to spoil the cleanliness and environment. They should not compromise with the spoilers of cleanliness and environment and pollution creators.
"Unauthorized stops, parking and speed of commercial vehicles should be dealt strictly.
"Put on the traffic signals and appeal to the society to obey the traffic rules and signals.
"Divide all the roads in the entire state for up and down driving and subdivide the dividers only at a specified distance to avoid the accidents and to manage traffic.
"Do not sub-divide the dividers frequently and for the convenience of a group of people or influential people even if it costs a person to take a long turn to go to the other side.
"Plan traffic movements one way where division is not possible.
"Only small size commercial vehicles should be allowed within the city and the movement of heavy vehicles (all space occupying vehicles viz. buses, trucks, matadors, tractors, etc.) should be restricted within the city/ municipal limits.
"The financial punishment to a few vehicles may not be the solution. Taking the vehicle and keeping it in custody for atleast a month can be a good punishment for the law breakers, without any leniency by any kind of influence, relation or corruption for its short time release. Shops and businesses should be run strictly inside their shutters and not outside.
"Create proper parking space around the markets and more importantly without or with a very nominal parking charge because most of the people go for wrong parking because of the parking charges at parking places, if somewhere they are, or the suggestion of custodial hanging of vehicle for one month should be adopted for wrong parking also.
"The shops and business units spoiling the environment and cleanliness of the state should also not be allowed to run their business for a month rather than imposing a financial punishment with no short time release relaxation.
"Above the ground well raised roadside pedestrian lane should be constructed for the public to move on and to avoid accidents and hit and run cases especially for old aged and children.
"The children especially have to come forward and take interest to follow the steps to make their surroundings clean, beautiful and healthy.
"Plant more and more ornamental trees in the residential colonies and along the roads. And anyone found removing or cutting the trees should be heavily fined alongwith a punishment of planting ten more trees per removed tree.
"Best efforts should also be made to minimize the noise pollution.
"Every citizen should contribute to clean their surroundings and to keep this society and environment healthy. The ego symbols and status issues should be kept behind over this health concern.
"The use of bicycles should be explored among all the age groups for its benefits to maintain good health, environment, savings, etc.
"Parents and teachers should incorporate and teach patience and respect to the new generation, since the new generation is losing both the traits. They should also be vigilant to the activities of their wards and for their addiction to drugs, smoking, drinking alcohol, overspeed etc and should be strictly taken care of.
