JKP XI, Aircel XI script emphatic wins in Christmas Cup

JAMMU, Dec 11: Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP) XI and Aircel XI registered resounding wins over their respective rivals in the ongoing Christmas Cup T20 Cricket Tournament, being organised by the All J&K Christian United Federation at Parade ground, here. Samuel John, Chief Postmaster, J&K was the chief guest, who alongwith Nicodemus, president J&K Christian United Federation was introduced with players of both the teams on the occasion.
Earlier, in the first match, Aircel XI defeated Municipal Commissioner’s XI by 6 wickets in an easy contest.
Batting first, Municipal Commissioner’s XI scored 124 for the loss of 5 wickets in the stipulated 20 overs. Raju scored a splendid half-century (55) in 47 balls with the help of 8 boundaries, while Som Bhatti contributed 16 runs to the total. For Aircel XI, Nikhil and Arvind took two wickets, while Sunil Sambyal claimed one.
Aircel XI in reply chased the required runs in 17.4 overs by losing 4 wickets, thus winning the match by 6 wickets. Sunil Sambyal and Baldeep scored 33 runs each, while Anand Tripathi and Raman chipped in with 17 runs each. Raju and Som Bhatti scalped 2 wickets each for Municipal Commissioners XI. Sunil Sambyal was adjudged man of the match for his all-round display.
In another match of the day, JKP XI thrashed Doordarshan XI by 6 wickets in a one-sided contest. Doordarshan scored 121 runs in the stipulated 20 overs, losing 8 wickets in the process. Opening batsman Anoop Wattal top scored with 36 runs, while his partner Sanju contributed 25, but after the dismissal of these two batsmen, Doordarshan XI lost wickets at regular intervals and the side managed only 121 runs in the allotted overs. Bunty also chipped in with 18 runs. RK Bhat was the wrecker-in-chief, who scalped 4 wickets in his 3 overs by conceding 16 runs, while Rajesh Gill took 3 and Shamsher one.
JKP XI, in reply reached the target in just 13 overs by losing 4 wickets, as the top order batsmen tore the rival bowlers with utmost ease. Skipper Rajesh Gill smashed quick-fire 38 runs in just 17 deliveries with the help of 7 delectable boundaries and two huge sixes, while his opening partner Amit Sharma top scored with unbeaten 43 runs including 6 fours and one six. Shashi contributed 31 runs with the help of six boundaries. Arvind took 2 wickets for Doordarshan XI, while Ravinder one. Rajesh Gill was adjudged man of the match for scoring 38 runs and taking 3 important wickets.
The matches were officiated by Harbinder Singh, JD Singh, Sadiq Hussain Malik, Yogesh Sharma and Amit.
