Vaid declares open Police Martyrs’ T20 Cricket Championship | Stadium XI drubs RCC Udhampur by 31 runs in opening tie | | EARLY TIMES REPORT KATHUA, Dec 11: Stadium XI won the inaugural match of the 2nd Police Martyrs’ Memorial North Zone Twenty20 Cricket Championship, jointly organised by Shaheed Welfare Committee and District Police Kathua at Sports Stadium, here today. Stadium XI registered a 31 runs win over RCC Udhampur to make it to the next round. Earlier, batting first after winning the toss, Stadium XI set a target of 115 runs for the loss of nine wickets, which, in reply, RCC Udhampur could not chase and the whole side bowled out for 83 runs in 16.3 overs. Pankaj was top scorer with 25-ball 31 runs while Himanshu and Rompy contributed 25 and 18 runs respectively. From RCC Udhampur, Nipun Sharma and Vikram shared three wickets each while Surya took two. Later, RCC Udhampur lost all their wickets for 83 runs in 16.3 overs with Om Pal being highest run getter. He made 28 runs. Vikram contributed 22 runs to the total. Rompy claimed three wickets from Stadium XI. The opening match was officiated by Jai Pal Singh and Ram Lubaya while, KV Singh was scorer. For his all-round performance, Rompy was adjudged man of the match. He was presented a cash reward of Rs 1000 by ASP Kathua, Zahid Manhas. Earlier, the championship was declared open by Additional Director General of Police (Headquarters), Dr SP Vaid in a colourful function. He was accompanied by chairman organizing committee and Deputy Inspector General of Police, Farooq Khan. Soon after the inauguration, floral tributes were paid to Martyrs of J&K Police, who sacrificed their lives for the motherland while performing their duties. Chief guest, Dr Vaid lightened the traditional lamp and laid wreath at the martyrs gallery. Earlier, Farooq Khan welcomed the special guests and the gathering. He dwelt at length regarding the objectives of the championship. |
