Firm on 'BJP tag', Gupta says no question of changing affiliations | 'Party ruined by high command decisions' | | Early Times Report Jammu, Dec 11: In politics nothing remains permanent , not even affiliations and association when it comes to grabbing the 'golden' offers. But there are certain stalwarts who have proved this theory wrong and even in present times when only power politics sways the politicians, such leaders stay firm. Veteran politician Prof Chaman Lal Gupta can be counted as one in that category who, dismissing and defying the party high command's decision of 'expulsion' has chosen to remain part and parcel of BJP-a party he has groomed and nourished for decades. The conviction is so deep rooted that any rumour and speculations about possibility of his joining any other party or floating a new one along with six other MLAs comes to him like a grave accusation. "It is just impossible rather unimaginable for me to join any party like NC or Congress , no matter both are ruling allies", Prof Gupta said in context of some speculations going on in the political scenario of state , particularly in the aftermath of BJP high command's decision of disqualification of six MLAs. "There is no question that I or my other MLAs will join NC or Congress……….," Prof Gupta said emphatically, adding " on the contrary if people want to come and meet me , my doors are always open". The veteran leader, who from day one has been asserting that he continues to be the leader of BJP Legislative Party, is firm on this and maintains that he is and shall remain with the party, come what may. He has dismissed the rumors that he along with five other 'disqualified' MLAs were mulling to join either National Conference or Congress, something which has been in circulation in the political corridors. In order to put his views and perspective straight, Gupta said, "I even refused Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah's offer to join NC as he was willing to make me Deputy Chief Minister. When I refused it then, how is it possible now." I have nourished the party for decades and my association with the party is based on principles and ideology, not for the sake of power or other gains", Prof Gupta added while substantiating his point. He however regretted the decision taken by the party high command lately with regard to disqualifying six other members as MLAs . "This is unfortunate and a will prove to be a huge loss to the party", he lamented. "The kind of situation that prevails and the brink party leadership has brought the state unit to, it will be wiped out completely from the political scenario of the state", the veteran leader said. Prof Gupta however expressed optimism on the other side where other MLAs are still a jointed lot. "We are six MLAs and are united. My colleagues accept me as party legislature leader and whatever decision I take they will accept," he maintained. On the other hand the Speaker Legislative Assembly Muhammad Akbar Lone has confirmed that he received a letter from BJP leadership seeking disqualification of six MLAs from the membership of the House. "I have received a letter and have asked my secretariat to examine it and find out all the recommendations made to this office after the controversy. The letter is under examination and the Assembly Secretariat has been asked to prepare a note and bring it before me," he reiterated while speaking to a news agency.. Lone said he would also hear the other side (MLAs) and take a decision only after taking legal opinion from Advocate General (AAG) and Law Department. "Besides, one of the members Chaman Lal Gupta had also filed a writ petition in the court and all these issues will be taken into account prior to any decision on the letter," he added. |
