PAC reviews functioning of education dept | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Dec 12: Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of Legislative Assembly today directed the education authorities to make Computer Aided learning (CAL) centres fully functional in all the schools having this facility. There are 484 schools across the state, which have Computer Aided learning Centres. Committee, which met here under the Chairmanship of Mir Saifullah asked the officers of education department to streamline teacher training process to ensure that the students get quality education. Committee members asked the authorities to ensure that all the CAL Centres are made fully functional by the end of mid January. The Committee members decided to visit some of the education institutions for on-the-spot inspection to check the status of CAL Centres in near future. It was informed in the meeting that all educational institutions of the State will be fully equipped with the CAL Centres in a phased manner. During the meeting, committee also reviewed the progress made under various centrally sponsored schemes like Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) and Rashtiya Madamik Siksha Abhyian (RMSA) and their implementation on the ground. It also re-examined the audit paras in the CAG’s Audit Report 2007-08 pertaining to education department. Committee members Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta, Mohammad Sahrief Naiz, Abdul Gaffar Sofi, Jagdesh Raj Spolia, Peerzada Mansoor Hussain, Khalid Najib Suharwardy, Naresh Kumar Gupta and Nazir Ahmad Gurzi also gave their suggestions for effective implementation of SSA and RMSA. Among others, Principal Accountant General, J&K Accountant General’ Office Venkatish Mohan, Commissioner/Secretary, Education Mrs. Naseem Lankar, Director General Accounts and Treasuries Wali Mohammad Bhat, Director School Education, Kashmir Mrs. Shugafta Parveen, Director School Education, Jammu Gulzar Ahmad Quershi, Director SSA Mrs. Yasha Mudgal, Director RMSA Sarmad Hafiz, Chief Education Officers and other officers from education department and Assembly Secretariat also attended the meeting.
