CS reviews computerization of CAPD at apex committee meeting | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Dec 12: Chief Secretary Madhav Lal on Monday directed the officials to draw an activity chart to time line the application of e-governance system in the Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution Department (CA&PD). Chairing the meeting of the State Level Apex Committee (SLAC) constituted to monitor the computerization process, he said phase wise implementation of various necessary components would facilitate successful and time bound completion of the prestigious project. He said the crucial steps in the IT initiatives include procurement of hardware, training of personnel, development of software and setting up of a departmental cell dedicated to the job at hand. Highlighting the need for faster application of e- governance in the Consumer Affair and Public Distribution Department (CAPD) by way of computerization of the entire PDS operations in the state, he said it would greatly help to keep a track on the movement of subsidized food grains from granaries to individual ration card holders Chief Secretary said that end-to-end automation and computerization of the complete PDS chain up to the shop level and availability of this information on a transparent portal in public domain will greatly improve the delivery on the ground and ensure the real beneficiary gets his due entitlement at fixed price, fixed quantity, and fixed time and of wholesome quality. The meeting was informed that the implementation process in the State is scheduled to be completed in 4 phases. The first phase involves compilation of Fair price shop data and its digitization, compilation of food stores data at Tehsil, District and Divisional level and its digitization(IInd phase), procurement of hardware (IIrd phase) production of necessary software to facilitate its placing in the public domain on the websites( IVth phase) . The first phase is set to be completed by mid of next year. To further facilitate the citizens, the CAPD department has also established toll free numbers at Jammu and Srinagar for grievance registration and redressal thereof. Apex committee meeting was attended by Commissioner Secretary Finance, Sudhanshu Pandey, Commissioner Secretary CAPD Pradeep Gupta, Commissioner Secretary IT M.K Diwedi, Special Secretary CAPD Ishtiaq Ahmad Ashai, Director CAPD Jammu and Director CAPD Kashmir, State Informatics Officer, J&K Bank Representative and other officials.
