“Rs 500 cr realized as water usage from NHPC’ | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Dec 12: The State Government has realized revenue of Rs.500 crore as water usage charges from NHPC during the current fiscal and this was informed during the meeting of Committee on Assurances (AC) of Legislative Assembly held under the Chairmanship of MLA Nazir Ahmad Gurezi, here today. The meeting was told that the department has set a target of realizing Rs 900 crore yearly on account of water usage by the NHPC. The meeting was convened to review the progress and action taken report on implementation of various Government assurances pertaining to PHE and Irrigation and Flood Control departments in 16th report. The Committee members Mir Zahoor Ahmad, T. Namgyal and Sham Lal Choudhry stressed upon the officers of PHE and Irrigation and Flood Control departments to gear up their field functionaries and fulfill all the Government Assurances pertaining to their departments in a time bound manner. Threadbare discussion was held on various ongoing schemes. It was informed in the meeting that historical measures have been taken after a long time for protection of flood threats in River Jehlum. It was also informed that 3 machines, including 2 draggers and one Water Master have been procured to handle the emergency situation during the floods. The Committee appreciated the working of these departments. However the members asked the authorities to ensure safer drinking water to the people. After threadbare examining, the Committee dropped some Assurances.
