RDD official absconds, 3 held with solar sets meant for BPL families | | | JAMMU: Police were looking for the official of rural development department (RDD) who sold 36 solar system sets, meant for BPL families, to three persons who were late last night apprehended at Ramban, about 150 km from here. Acting on a tip-off that some solar system sets, which were kept at panchyat ghar, Chanderkote, for their distribution among BPL families of Rajgarh and Ghari villages on subsidiary rates by the block and rural development department, were being illegally carried to Kashmir, police laid a naka on the national highway at Ramban late Sunday night. During the checking of vehicles, cops, led by Ramban police station SHO, Inspector Varinder Singh, intercepted a truck (JK01A/2096) and recovered 36 solar system sets from it. The truck and the solar systems were then seized, and three persons arrested. They included Shakeel Ahmed, son of Ghulam Ahmed of Khanabal, Anantnag, Manzoor Ahmed, son of Abdul Hamid of Taregam, Kulgam, and Javed Ahmed, son of Abdul Salam Batt of Achhabal. They were booked under sections 409, 411 and 120-B of RPC. The operation was supervised by SP (Ramban) Anil Magotra. During his questioning, the accused told police that the solar sets had been sold to them allegedly by RDD official Pravez who was absconding. A hunt was on to nab him. |
