National Mood: Anna takes on PM, HM & Rahul Gandhi | India Against Corruption | | RUSTAM JAMMU, Dec 12: Social activist Anna Hazare, who has been spearheading movement against corruption in India, yesterday blasted Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Home Minister P Chidambaram and AICC general secretary and UPA chairperson's son Rahul Gandhi and once again reiterated that his crusade against corruption would continue till India is not rid of corrupt elements in the political establishment and bureaucracy, including lower bureaucracy. He attacked the Prime Minister and dismissed him as unworthy of taking any decision and enforcing it. He said that nobody in his own government takes him seriously and that there is not one but four five Prime Ministers, who are acting independently, thus making a mockery of the polity and the system. He did not name those who consider Prime Minister but did say that they have destroyed the whole system and adversely impacted the polity. He said "here is a Prime Minister who wrote to him that his certain demands would be accepted but the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Lokpal Bill not only rejected the sense of the House but also refused to take cognizance of the Prime Minister's letter on the issue". The upshot of his whole argument was that it was not the Prime Minister but AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi who is dictating terms, running the government as an extra-constitutional authority, influencing the decision-makers and shielding the corrupt. He dismissed the entire Congress leadership and all the ministers in the Union Council of Ministers as mere rubber stamps and opined that they are ruining the country and making the life of common masses a veritable hell on earth. His message was that the system has to undergo a radical change if the country is to make progress and people to lead a dignified and prosperous life. Taking on the Union Home Minister, Anna said that it was he at whose behest the police force perpetrated brutalities on Baba Ramdev and his followers and supporters during the midnight. He revealed that it was again the Home Minister who had conspired against him in August in order to prevent him from launching fast-unto-death in Delhi from August 16 this year to force the Congress-led UPA Government to pass Jan Lokpal Bill. He said it was none other than Chidambaram who sent him to the Tihar jail and wanted the police to pick him up from the jail, put him in an air force plane and airlift him to Pune to defeat his objective, but failed because he (Anna) put his foot down and refused to buy any of the police arguments. He said with P Chidambaram as the country Home Minister the country is bound to suffer. "What will happen to the country if a person like Chidambaram heads the Union Home Ministry?" His refrain was that the real threat to the country is from those who are at the helm of affairs (rulers) and not from others. He termed them as "traitors" within. Anna not only accused Rahul Gandhi of influencing the Prime Minister and Parliamentary Standing Committee on Lokpal Bill, but also ridiculed him and questioned his very credentials, intentions, wisdom, as also political maturity. He termed him as unworthy of becoming the country's Prime Minister. "Spending one day in a hut is just not enough for him to aspire to be a Prime Minister". "He (Rahul) would be dangerous for the country in case he becomes Prime Minister with the views he holds," he said. The most significant aspect of the whole situation was that Anna Hazare took on the Prime Minister, the Home Minister, Rahul Gandhi, the Congress and the UPA Government not in a camera or while addressing a press conference. He blasted them and denounced their style of functioning while addressing thousands of his supporters and admirers at the historic Jantar Mantar, New Delhi. Yet another significant aspect was his unequivocal declaration that "we have to change the system and establish in the country the people's democracy". Anna meant what he said and what he said was applauded across India. Indeed, he symbolizes the national mood. There should be no doubt about it. Also there should be no doubt that the nation wants a change. That's the reason that the suffering and oppressed Indians observed symbolic fast for a day yesterday in 45 major cities of the country and assuring Anna that they are with them. Remember, Anna, unlike Mahatma Gandhi, doesn't have any political organization at his back and call. |
