Board, Hindu bodies at logger heads over next year's Amarnath yatra | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Dec 12: The controversy grips the next years holy Amarnath pilgrimage seven months ahead of its start with Hindu bodies VHP and Baba Amarnath Yatri Niyas (BAYN) again on loggerheads with Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB) over the duration and schedule of annual yatra. The VHP has urged the Amarnath Shrine Board headed by Governor, N N Vohra not to interfere in the duration of yatra as it is a religious matter and should be left to religious bodies only. However the Board has rejected the VHP and BAYS assertion saying that a Sub Committee has already been constituted by the Governor N N Vohra its chairman which would hear the interested parties and advise the Board regarding the duration and schedule of the Yatra from 2012 onwards. The chief Executive Officer of the Board R K Goyal said that BABA Yatri Niyas has put its views before the Committee September this year and the Sub Committee would be fanalizing its recommendations in due course of time. He also denied the allegations as leveled by VHP national spokesperson, Dr Surinder Jain that the Governor N N Vohra did not permit the BABA Yatri Niyas and VHP delegation to meet him and termed the allegations totally baseless and unfounded. Mr Goyal in a statement said that both Dr Jain and VHP state president Dr Rama Kant Dubey met him for two hours on November 9 and presented their views on the duration of holy Amarnath yatra. Earlier Dr Jain alleged that they were not given permission by Mr Vohra to meet him and he also asked the Board to refrain from deciding the duration of yatra in future as the same should be left with Hindu organizations. The VHP leader has also warned that in case the Board goes ahead and decides the duration and schedule date of yatra without taking the Hindu organizations into confidence the VHP will be forced to launch a nation-wide agitation. It may be recalled that the Hindu bodies last year also were in confrontation with Board which reduced the yatra period by 15 days and on the constant pressure of these organizations the Board had later constituted a Sub Committee headed by Shri Shri Ravi Shanker to decide on the duration and schedule of yatra in consultation of the religious organizations. But prior to beginning of the yatra next year the Hindu organizations have adopted a rigid attitude and warned the Board against any decision on yatra date and duration. According to sources if such a confronting attitude of the two organizations continues in future the next year's holy Amarnath yatra will be again under the shadow of controversy.
