| A case of victim's victimisation: Woman | | ASP abused by DSP, attached by govt | | BHARAT BHUSHAN
JAMMU, Dec 12: It is indeed a case of victim's further victimisation. Additional SP (ASP) Anita Sharma was Saturday abused and humiliated by her junior, DSP (headquarters, Reasi) Mohammad Aslam Choudhary in full public view at a NC rally in Reasi town. While the latter was put behind the bars for showing "indiscipline", the lady officer was too punished, with government ordering her immediate attachment with IGP's office.
Though she was the victim, the government virtually made her accused by ordering her attachment.
She was the only woman field officer in the region and ought to have been encouraged to discharge her duties without fear and any political pressure. The government action against her was definitely not in keeping with the slogan of "woman empowerment".
For crossing all limits of decency and showering choicest abuses on Anita, Aslam, in an unprecedented move, was arrested Saturday nightand placed under suspension. He was bailed out by a Reasi court today.
The government also ordered the attachment of Anita and SSP (Reasi) Keshav Ram Choursia with IGP's office for the failure of "command and control" on their part. IGP was ordered to probe into the incident and submit the report at the earliest.
Anita was on duty at the NC rally in Reasi town Saturday when Aslam was said to have appeared on the scene and allegedly used filthy language, while showering abuses on her over some trivial issue.
A police officer said the DSP's objectionable behaviour was a clear case of intentional humiliation of the lady police officer.
A departmental action would be initiated against him on the basis of the IGP's inquiry report, he added. |
