Attempts being made to create communal tension in Doda: BJP

JAMMU, Dec 13: Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) today alleged that attempts are being made to create communal tension in Doda district by some anti-national elements, but administration is watching like a mute spectator.

Party has demanded high level probe in the burning down of ancient Chandi Mata mandir during the intervening night of December 9-10.

A high level delegation of BJP today called on the Divisional Commissioner Pawan Kotwal and apprised him about the burning down of an ancient temple by some miscreants at Galadhar top in Doda. Delegation comprised of senior leaders Nirmal Singh, Bali Bhagat and C.L Thakur, Convener "Galadhar Mandir Action Committee.

They alleged that police and administration has not taken any action in last four days despite resentment among the masses against the incident. They said that setting ablaze the ancient and historical Goddess Chandi Mata mandir have hurt the sentiments of Hindu community.

The BJP leaders alleged that police has always remained a mute spectator whenever temples belonging to the minority community were burnt down in the past. “No action was taken when this thousand years old temple was first burnt down in 1995 and again in 2009 by some unidentified miscreants”, they alleged.
The BJP leaders urged Kotwal to intervene personally in the matter start investigation in the entire episode.

They also demanded that adequate compensation be released for the reconstruction of the temple and also for setting up of a permanent security picket in the area to ensure security and peace in the district.

Statement issued by the party says that Kotwal assured the delegation that stern action will be taken against the miscreants involved in the incident.

On the other hand Kranti Dal during a meeting held here has demanded immediate restoration of the Chandi Mata Mandir, which was damaged by setting it on fire by some miscreants. The meeting was chaired by Working Chairman, Anan Sharma.

Party has said that government is not keen to look after the religious property of the Hindus and this episode clearly shows that some vested interest are trying to whip up communal passion.

“At times many Idols of Hindu Gods and Goddesses have been stolen from the historical and famous temples in the state but till date no clue has been found what happened to them”, alleged Anan Sharma.

Another senior leader of Dal, Pritam Sharma alleged that some people have sold the temple properties in Kashmir valley but government is not taking any action.
He demanded passage of Temple bill in the assembly to create a Auqaf and Gurdwara Prabandak committee type institution for safeguarding the religious shrines belonging to the hindus.

Dal has warned the government and concerned authorities to take immediate steps to stop destruction of Hindu temples and shrines, otherwise party will hold statewide protests against the government.
