Srinagar recorded coldest night, weather improves in Leh, Pahalgam | | | early times report Srinagar, Dec 14 : Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, recorded coldest night of the winter so far after the minimum dipped to minus 3.3 degrees Celsius this morning while there was slight improvement in Pahalgam, Gulmarg and Leh.
However, despite icy cold winds, the maximum remained above normal due to open sky.
There would be no major change in the weather during the next two days. The weather will remain dry in the absence of any Western Disturbances (WD) during the next two days, a Met department spokesman said.
He said due to open sky during the night, the minimum will remain below normal in the Kashmir valley and Ladakh region.
People woke up to a coldest morning of the winter so far when the minimum dipped to minus 3.3 degrees, 2.2 degrees below normal in Srinagar.
Taps were frozen in many areas during the night which later melted as the day progressed because of above normal maximum temperature.
Coldest night was also recorded at Kupwara in north Kashmir and Kokernag in south Kashmir where the minimum temperature was recorded at minus 3 degrees and minus 3.1 degrees respectively.
Qazigund recorded minus 3.4 degrees against yesterday's minus 3.2 degrees.
At Pahalgam, it was minus 6.8 degrees this morning against yesterday's minus 7 degrees while at Gulmarg, the minimum was minus 8.3 degrees.
Kargil, a border town on the Srinagar-Leh national highway, connecting the Ladakh region with the rest of the state, also recorded coldest night of the season after the minimum dipped to minus 12.4 degrees.
However, there was considerable improvement in weather in Leh, where the minimum was two notches up this morning. Against minus 15.4 degree yesterday, which was lowest of the winter so far, it was minus 13.6 degrees this morning
